Call for entries from 31 countries in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia
For the eighth time, Henkel Central Eastern Europe (Henkel CEE) has announced a call for entries to be submitted for the Henkel Art.Award., the only comprehensive art promotion prize for the Region Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Artists from 31 countries are invited to submit their entries to win the prize endowed to the sum of EUR 7,000. On the basis of the expanded cooperation concluded with the modern art museum “Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig (MUMOK)“, Henkel not only offers the winner an exhibition in his or her homeland, but an individual exhibition at MUMOK in Vienna in the following year. At the same time, Henkel is also granting the Henkel Art.Award. Promotional Prize for Talented Young Austrian Artists, which includes a monetary grant of EUR 2,000. In cooperation with its longstanding partner KulturKontakt Austria, Henkel CEE is also bestowing a third prize, namely the Henkel Art.Award. for Young CEE Artists, featuring a monetary award of EUR 1,000. The prize winner is selected from among the participants in the Artists-in-Residence Program of KulturKontakt Austria.
Vienna, The Henkel Art.Award. 2009 and the two promotional awards for talented young artists in Central and Eastern Europe and Austria will focus on honoring outstanding and innovative works of art submitted by fine artists in the fields of painting, drawing, photography, video and installation.
The established partner of Henkel is KulturKontakt Austria, which has been initiating and promoting cultural projects in Central, Eastern and South East Europe over the last 20 years. Effective immediately, Henkel CEE has also attracted the Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig as a further cooperation partner for the art prize. For the first time, this year’s winner will not only receive the monetary prize but also be given the opportunity to display his or her works of art in a separate exhibition hosted by the Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig in 2010.
A top-class international jury convening in September will evaluate the entries and nominate five artists as the finalists for the Henkel Art.Award. 2009 and the Promotional Prize for Talented Young Austrian Artists. The award winners will be announced at a gala award ceremony to be held in Vienna in November 2009, in the presence of all the nominees. Subsequently, the works of the winners and the other finalists will be put on display to the public within the context of an exhibition in the Austrian capital city.
Numerous Henkel Art.Award. participants or winners in recent years have been invited to international exhibitions or exploited the prize as the starting point for an international career. For example, the 2008 award winner Miha Strukelj will take part in this year’s Biennale di Venezia.
