Construction of Henkel factory started

With the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone, the construction of Henkel's new adhesives factory has started today in Tatabánya-Környe Industrial Park. The factory and its logistics centre are to be built as a green field investment worth €14.7 million, and will offer 80 job opportunities. The new site will serve its adhesives activities as a platform for growth in the Central and Eastern Europe region.

Among the participants of the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone were Dieter Knoll, CAO of Henkel Magyarország Kft., Csaba Schmidt, Mayor of Tatabánya and László Beke, Mayor of Környe.

At the event, Dieter Knoll said: “We see a significant growth potential of adhesive technologies in the emerging markets. We should take the opportunity of growth that is why we decided to improve our production capacity in the region. This business sector is characterized by an expansion towards east   especially in the electronics sector – therefore we follow our business partners to supply from a site closer to their operations.

The management of Henkel selected Hungary after a thorough analysis of several Eastern European countries, including Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Romania. There were several reasons for the investment in Hungary - Central Eastern Europe’s Electronic industry is significantly concentrated in Hungary. Thus, the company will be closer to its customers and partners, which facilitates raw materials supply. Another important factor of the decision-making was the qualified and proficient workforce.

Production to be undertaken in the Környe plant will be relocated by Henkel from three other factories. A part of a Polish factory and the production from an English plant will be moved to Hungary, as well as the production from the adhesives factory of Henkel Magyarország in Vác.

Henkel Magyarország Kft. reported 83.9 billion Forints revenue in 2009 and employed a yearly average of 595 people. Its most important brands include Biopon, Ceresit, Loctite, Persil, Schwarzkopf, Thomsit and Tomi.
